“I’m not a professional literary critic, but I know what I like. Unfortunately I DO NOT LIKE Science Fiction reading. I don’t have the patience to imagine on the level it requires. HOWEVER (and no I’m not biased because she’s a hometown girl) FLASHBANG a collection of short stories written by talented Philly author Rorie Still not only held my attention, I found it quite enchanting. In stories like ‘Hatched’ a young college student suddenly realizes that he’s growing wings. ‘Blow Up’, about a young woman who compromises herself in order to appease the ego of a local media socialite leaves one to wonder about limits and boundaries when it comes to being taken for granted in certain relationships. The story “My So Called Power” elicits the question in the end … How can you be a hero to others when you can’t even save yourself?
